Gas tank swap question.

Post by Joshpow »

I found a good deal on a plastic fuel tanks from a 93-97 Ford ranger the other day. Seems like I saw a post here about swapping one into our trucks. Seems like someone did it. I was just wondering if it was a good swap, and how hard it was to do. I also needed to know about the fuel pickup and sending unit. How compatable would the sending unit be with our gauges? Also, how would you get the pickup to work with an external pump? Any info would be great. I don't want this to get away if it will work, but it's too much trouble if it wont.

if the fuel pump is a intank pump. the pump does the sucking from it. because it sits at the lowest point inthe tank. so you may not be able to get a external pump to work with the internal pump if it has one. it mightbe easyier to use the internal pump. but you might have to regulate it down in pressure. i think the ranger tanks mount in basically the same place as our aux tanks do. under the front of the bed and rear of the cab. so mounting might be easy. i would get all the straps and hangers thatmatch the tank though. the sending unit should work i would think . unless there is something abotu the power that comes or goes from it.

Fuel sending unit ohm parameters are not compatible after 1989.
