I've been doin' a bit of searching and such and couldn't seem to find much info on this, but I'm curious what it would take to get my truck into the 14.00-14.50 range (ideally on street tires / gas) and still be able to haul loads to the dump and cruise the freeway at 65 on the weekends. It's a 2WD '69 F100 long bed with a 360, 3 on the tree, and a 3.25 rear end.
To ask a similar question, what could I expect out of $1000 worth of mods, and which mods would I want to look into doing.

First things first, the tranny setups on all these fords sucked unless you want to tow or 4x4. Not really built for speed. If you do some decent engine mods you'd probably want to get a sweet tranny so you can actually transfer the power to the rear tires. Maybe a nice C6 auto?
As for engine mods, go for a good cam, nice intake manifold, good carb and a good ignition, and if you got a little extra $$$ go for an exhaust. This will really give some extra power and can wake up an engine pretty nicely!

That's sort of what I was thinking. What kind of power and 1/4 mile times do you think I'd put down with those mods, sans exhaust. As far as ignition, is the full MSD deal with the dizzy, box, wires, coil, etc, worth it, or should I just go with a points eliminator and coil. Ignition will probably be my first mod as my coil is lookin' like it's about to rust through.

I did that and the engine is more responsive than it was with the MSD box and Durospark dizzy. I Used the Blaster coil too.Salty wrote:

I did the whole MSD ignition and yes, way more responsive! Definitely a good way to spend some money!

I think you should do full length headers, intake, carb and ignition and see where it is at. I wouldn't spend the money on a cam till you want to do the heads to make full use of the cam and have more choices.
