yesterday i got the correct oil pan for this thing and today i brought home the exhaust system for it. it is just a stock single exhaust that i saved from a parts truck. it goes from the manifolds all the way back to behind the tire. its all welded into one long piece. i will probably have to either cut the pipe to get it back under the truck or wait and pull the cab to get it to go in. in one piece. all i need is the piolt bushing and the floor and front cabmounts and this truck will be living again.

i don't think it's a coating, more like a brass alloy or something.

todays update. we swapped out the old ragged seat for a nice black seat that wasnt all tore up. we pulled all of the parts off the seat and the floor. removed the seat cleaned up the floor and got rid of the old torn up floor mat. i was able to see how far the floor rust went. the whole drivers side will have to be replaced if i keep this cab. and only about half of the passenger side if not all of it also. once it was all cleaned up we put the new seat in. it looks good. then i put a blanket over it to keep it clean once i put some of the buckets of parts for the truck back in it. maybe more this weekend. we will see. i also removed the old messed up ash tray. i had to use a crow bar to get it out. some how the removal tab for the ash tray got caugth up in behind the bracket and was jambed behind it. i had to trash it and the bracket. i will have to go to the junkyard for another one i think. unless i have one in this box.

i had 5 minutes tonight to change out the front driveshaft ujoint. when i did the front yoke on the axle would spin freely. i thought how nice something else is broken. it turns out that i forgot you have to locking the front hubs in order to lock up the front axle. duh. i didnt even get the driveshaft all the way out. its stuck. i'm going to pump it full of grease and try and seperate the two half. i took the threaded locking nut off and still no go.

well i stopped on the driveshaft. the ujoint i had was too large. anyway i got my parts truck for the cab so i took my cab off tonight. here are some pics of the rust damge the cab had. plus it had all of the bedliner stuff painted all over it. you cant see it in the pictures but the firewall on the passenger side was ate up too. just up past the firewall and floor seam. once you get the doors and all the other stuff out of the cab. the cab is just a big ball to roll off the truck . i almost rolled it completly off by myself. i had to have my wife hold it in mid air for a minute so i could get it off the tire. other than that i took the cab off by just rolling it off of the frame. tomorrow i will post pics of the parts truck and start getting that cab off. i also plan on power wasing the transmission and mid frame of all the grease before i put the new cab back on it.

a cab cuts up into four major parts when you go to get rid of them. the roof. the floor the firewall and cowl. and the back of the cab. just lay the floor and the back of the cab in the bed of a truck then stack on top the roof to the drivers side and flip the open part of the firewall up on top and to the passenger side of the bed. and you have your cab loaded and ready for the scrap yard. new cab by the end of the weekend. yee haw. really i am glad. it is one more thing off of the list to get done.

well i got lucky and found this one.

today washed more grease and dirt off of the transmssion and tranfer case since there is no cab on the frame. i also got the new cab completely unbolted from the other truck. now i need several people or a differnt way to get the cab swapped on now. of course the new cab has more rust than ithought it had to begin with. but it is still a better cab than i had.

are you ready for some cab tipping? i did it i got the cabs swapped. here is how i did it.

this is where i left off with the cab removed.
Image
then i tipped the cab off of the frame of the parts truck.
Image
then i layed down some blankets to protect the cab sides. and tipped it on its side. and pushed the parts truck back out of the way.
Image
then i tipped the cab back on to the ground so that i could spin the cab back around facing the right way to go back on the 4wd frame.
Image
with my blankets ready. i then pushed the 4wd frame up into position to line up with where the cab was sitting at. i had to dog walk the cab while on its side and my wife pulling on the blankets to get the cab next to the frame.
[Image
then we started to tip it back onto the 4wd frame. as we did it was too far away to work properly we got stuck on the transmission. and the drivers cab mount.
Image
i then had the idea to lift the cab up off of theground and put some blocks under it to get up and over the transmission.
Image
i had to lift the cab up and let the transmission sldie back to center twice while lifting and putting more blocks under the side of it. all of the real lifting was done mostly by myself. my wife helped me all the way through the whole process. she didnt like helping me but she did anyway. here is how it looks when we quit tonight.

the only damage that may have occured while we were doing this was when i tipped the cab off of the donor truck. because the engine was still in the truck. i think i hitthe bed to the rear of the cab and made a small dent. nothing major.

here are some pictures of the homemade cab mounts that were on the new cab. there is some rust to fix in the floors and firewall but not too bad. it is way better than the old cab for sure. it is not going to be any kind of show truck its just for cutting wood in the winter time. so this will do once i weld in some new floors from the old hood i cut sheets of metal out of.

no pics tonight. but both doors are back on the brake pedal swap and booster is back on. and the 2wd to 4wd drive shifter is back on. plus i replaced the radio anteena. i need to figure out how to push hard enough to get the main shifter locked back in. i tried all day long and couldn't push down hard enough and twist it. if i could get that backon i could put the tunnel cover back on. tomorrow is to power wash the floor of the cab to get all the dirt and mud out of it. then the gas tank can go back in. and i need to readjust the drivers door. i can also put the visors and headliner in when im ready too. i also decided to remove the anteena booster. i wont need it. i will also work on rebuilding the steering column tomorrow. i am going to use a black outer column instead of the red one it has. i think red wouldnt look proper in the cab. but the drivers door is red so would it make a difference? no it wouldn't i guess.
