oil pan removal question

Post by cjroddam »

in my 69 f100 360fe...i have the motor torn down to the block...just did my timing chain...while im waiting for my heads and before i put a new oil pan gasket on for the timing chain cover, i was wondering if the oilpan will clear everything and come completly outta the truck...if so i would like to go ahead and do a high volume oil pump...is this possible with the block still in the truck and without having to unbolt the motor mounts or anything?? just drop the pan and oilpump???

Just replace it with a Standard volume pump. The HV doesn't gain you anything in an FE other than lakes of oil in your valve covers. Pump is less expensive too.

Saves $$$ too on valve cover gaskets when you replace them because they leak with all the extra oil up there ...

it can be done, but you have to drop the pan, and then drop the pump into the pan to remove. you might have to turn the crank to clear all the rod caps as you pull it out. you might also have to unbolt the engine mounts and jack the engine up for clearance. i just did this, but i was removing a rear sump pan-which is deeper-to install a front mount pan. it was a pain, but was doable.

if it has the heads off and you pull the pan you are only 8 rings and main and rod bearing away from a infrme rebuild on it.
