427 oil filter adapter
Has anyone put on one of these filter adapters to replace the stock unit. Apparently the oil passages are larger to improve the flow. The only ones that I've seen are for a vertically mounted filter which won't fit on the FE trucks since the big FEs always came in cars. Anyone know if a horizontal mount exists with the large oil passages?

Re: 427 oil filter adapter
I have about 5 of those on the shelf but there is one original to the 427 that has larger oil passages. My brother bought one but it was the verticle mount style and it wouldn't fit on a truck. I have never seen a larger oil passage horizontal filter housing, that is what I'm looking for.

I'll look around for the extra I have. I don't remember the holes being the small.
I've had a couple of the verticle style with the small and large port but remember the horizontal being just as big as the large port verticle.

Re: 427 oil filter adapter
Not to hi jack the thread, but why won't the vertical style adapters work on the trucks?

they will work but then you cant remove the oil filter without jacking up the engine to get the filter off.

Use a 3/4 quart Dodge filter. Same diameter and threads. Fits perfectly, but short enough to get it on and off.fordman wrote:they will work but then you cant remove the oil filter without jacking up the engine to get the filter off.

Re: 427 oil filter adapter
Hey MrTleavitt,
I followed the advice of FlyBoy2610 and got the 3/4 quart filter; it works perfectly with no clearance problems. There are detailed photos of this in my project update thread:

Thanks again to FlyBoy2610 for the helpful advice.
