update.

After trying to get thru on Holley's toll free line for the last 4 hours, I called their regular number...which I have to pay for...got thru to customer servive who immediately put me on hold for "technical service"and I've been on hold for 15 minutes.

Next update tomorrow...when I'll likely still be on hold...

Not to start a holley vs. edelbrock debate
Yes, lets not... its almost as bad as politics, it is the same as ford vs chevy, pepsi vs coke, maryann vs ginger you'll just never get everyone to agree.

And there are a couple of folks already getting dagerously close to "personal"... :nono:

There's nothing personal in my posts. Up until now, I assumed Holley was a top line carb. I bought one...it was defective from the factory...they know they made a defective product so, now we get to see how they deal with it.

I can't speak to Edelbrock because I don't own one. Of course, if I wanted a service comparison, I could try to contact Edelbrock and see how long it takes to reach an actual person. Speaking of which, I gave up trying to find someone at Holley. My boss will only tolerate my sitting on the phone for so long. I took the carb to a local Holley distributor listed on their web site and they agreed to contact Holley and ask for a replacement. Estimated time ..2 weeks...maybe.

BTW...When I told the guy at the counter that I'd been trying to reach someone at Holley since last week, he laughed and shook his head.

I'm not interested in starting a pissing match. I do, however, think this is useful information for anyone trying to decide who to deal with. I'm a welder. If you pay me to weld and my welds break and leave you stranded on the side of the road then, I deserve to be criticized. If I don't answer a customers calls about my bad welds then I deserve to be criticized. If I refuse to accept responsibility for my bad welds then, I deserve to be critisized. It's that simple.

I Don't know why Holley started putting that stupid zinc coating their carbs. Mine both have the classic brass finish. I won't buy one with that coating on it. I've never had any luck getting through to Holley either. Their customer service sucks.

Again no one said you did. It is good you aren't because it would not be tolerated.

I agree.

Now, as a general announcement... When I or any other moderator or administrator make a statement, it is not required or desired that you:
  • Apologize
  • State that you did not do whatever.
  • Comment on statement

Now, bact to the topic, which is that particular Holley and what they do about it.

Correction...

At this point I'd be happy with Mrs Howell and a fuel mixer the Professor made out of coconuts and oyster shells.

At least one would work and the other would be rich.

Update. Having failed after many, many, many attempts to contact Holley, I took the carb to the local speed shop because they are Holley distributors. These are also the fellas who told me about the recall. They shipped it off 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear anything from Holley.

At Last!

The new carb is here and on the truck. Runs like a raped ape! No complaints so far. Hopefully this one won't disintegrate in gasoline.

So...on the plus side, Holley replaced the faulty carb no questions asked. It took exactly 2 weeks from the time I dropped it off at the speed shop to the day I bolted the new carb on.

On the minus side....don't waste time trying to contact a human at Holley. Were it not for the guys at the speed shop, I'd still be on hold.

Lesson? Holley stands behind it's product but, you should get to know the guys at the local speed shop if you're gonna buy a Holley carb.

R.Smith wrote:I called my local speed shop and it turns out Holley issed a recall some time back for this specific problem....defective castings.

Now my problem is that I didn't personally purchase the carb. I bought an entire 68 f100 because the owner had a pile of new parts he'd never installed...headers, edelbrock intake and this carb. I guess I get to track him dowm and pray he kept the reciept.
glad they got you fixed up

Taking into consideration you do need atleast 1/8th of a functioning human brain to install and tune a holley I can understand why thier customer service line could be hard to get through on.
