walk me through this..
So i need to change the oil pan gasket and the trans pan gasket on my truck. i have a 360 with a c6 auto on it. would pulling the engine with the trans attached to it be better or the engine by itself? if i disconnect the engine, dont i need to rer align the bellhousing to the block?
help?
help?

You should be able to change both i the truck. I have read here that all you need to do is undo the motor mounts and raise the engine enough to get the pan out. If you do a search there is a few threads that explain how its done.

But, if you are going to pull it to do the job, pull them both together.

if you do pull them, it would be an ideal time to clean up the eng/tranny and the eng compartment. just to freshen it all up.

Re: walk me through this..
I like to take some white electrical tape and tag everything as I unhook/take it off. You know like wiring and hoses, etc. Just use a sharpie or pen and number or letter things so it's easier to put it all back together. Then just make sure everything is unhooked before you pull it out.
Having somebody there to help you makes things easier. One guy to run the hoist and one to watch.
You'll want to drain all fluids before you take it out too. Including the trans fluid. Just loosen all the bolts on the trans pan and let it drain. Then you can actually take the pan off and drain what is left in it. Just put it back on with a few bolts when you get ready to pull it.
You're going to need some floor dry and rags. Good luck.

Re: walk me through this..
nope, it will go in the same way it came out. will be easy unless your were planning on replacing the drive shaft. then you might want to get it balanced. just like iamthewreckingcrew said, make sure you mark all wires and hose AS they come off so everything goes back together smoothly and everthing should be just fine. good luck

Yep, going back in is easy. Just line the driveshaft back up as you are sliding the engine/trans back in. You will probably need someone helping to line them up. Not because it's difficult, just because you can't line it up and run the hoist at the same time.

For the oil pan, just undo the motor mount nuts and the transmission cooling lines and raise it up until it stops. Depending on the front cross member, the oil pan should slip off easy. Mine did.

Re: walk me through this..
Do NOT wrap your headers! You will kill them quick! Get them coated but never wrap them.

Re: walk me through this..
Agreed. Wrapped headers turn to rust dust quickly.

Re: walk me through this..
I've got some VHT ceramic paint that I'm going to try out soon on my headers. Gotta go get them blasted first though.
