I rebuilt the carb, everything was done correctly but no matter how much adjusting I did, I couldn't get rid of the hesitation after it warmed up---cold with choke on, ran perfectly. But, once it warmed up, hesitation going around the corners. High speed driving just fine. Did a little internet searching and apparently it was a fairly common problem but not many solutions other than sending the carb into one of these places that re-engineers the carb for $$$.
So, Saturday morning one of the local car repair shows is on and they are handling some older car issues. I call in and the host was an old timer mechanic and without hesitation (no pun intended ) he says, you've got 47 thousandths primary jets in there, pull them out and drill em out to 51 thousandths. Well, I just happened to have a newer 2100 laying around, opened it up, had 51's in it. Made the swap and no more hesitation. Unbelievable. He said the engine would even run cooler--not sure why that is.

When engines run lean they run hot. When you drilled the jets out you fattened it up and it will run cooler.Chasbod wrote:He said the engine would even run cooler--not sure why that is.

There's a radio show like that on KFAB out of Omaha, Mr. Mechanic. The two hosts are a hoot!
But they sure know a lot about cars. I love that show when I get a chance to listen to it.
