Distributor Shaft Oil Leak

Post by hi-fi-guy »

I had the 390 up around 75+ mph for about an hour yesterday for the first time in a while and it ran excellent. However when I opened the hood after the trip (I am in the habit of doing it) to check up on everything I noticed it looks like oil has come out of the hole in the intake manifold that the distributor goes through and blown up on to the top of the engine. I'm not low on oil and pressure is fine, so not much oil made it out. Is there some sort of seal that should be on the dizzy shaft that I'm missing/or is not functioning? Once before I did accidentally let a good bit of water run down through the hole (with the dizzy still in) when cleaning off the engine so I know there's not an intact seal.

yes the dist has a rubber seal around it to seal that area to the intake.

Alright thanks. I'll hit up Napa and see what I can find.
