Fan shrouds?

Post by Darrman »

I just found out that my new DC fan shroud does not fit, and they do not list a specific one for my truck. After calling them I was basicly given the bullsh%t
act and told I would have to pay to send it back, which makes it the last time I order from them.
Anyways, I have a '69 F100 with a 390/automatic with a 4 row extra cooling radiator, brand new oem copper job.
I received a 68-70 F350 extra cooling fan shroud that is too tall, it hits the lower rad hose and trans lines about 3-4 inches before the top can drop into place.
I am thinking this is actually a Super extra cooling shroud.
Any ideas, thanks.

you said it exactly. It's a shoud for the Super Cool radiator which has a core size of 24-1/4" high x 26-1/4"wide.
The others(yours) are 19-1/4" high x 26-1/4" wide.
NPD has them listed. made on "Ford Tooling"
68 Custom Cab Shorty, 390, C6, 9"-3.50:1 Currie T/L

I haven't had a shroud on my truck since I got it...so far I have all my fingers and I don't let strangers look under my hood or my kilt so I think the public is safe...LOL

I didn't have a shroud on mine for 20 years...
A couple of years ago, I came across one in a wrecking yard and got it for $5.00.. it was in mint condition, tyhe stickers weren't even dirty.
I also parted out the '71 CS, which had a good on with one liitle chip in a place I didn't even see until I got it off.
I had them both leaning against the wall in my storage unit i moved somethiong which moved something else which caused the seat from my van to slide down the other wall, and land right on top of both of them smashing them to bits.
it was nearly a year before i found another one... I hade to drive almost 250 mile round trip and pay the guy $20.
He wanted $40, but after my telling himn the story, he said he'd only take $20 and at least help pay for that gas...
I thought that was awesome.. would i do it again? If I had to, yes and I would pay the full amout.
For the last 20 years my truck has ran a little warm when idling at a stop, especially in warm weather.
As soon as I'd start rolling agin the temp would go right back down.
Since installing the shroud, it hasn't run 1 degree past normal range... so yeah I'd do it again, it's worth it to me.
