Electric Fuel Pump Opinions??... (PICS ADDED!)

And I agree that something is wrong with the fuel line and that brass piece coming right from the tank.
This is the second or third time I've had a problem with the line getting clogged....so this time I would
like to do more than just a temporary fix. I don't know what the guy was thinking when he ran this line...

The line could be a Rube Goldberg line as long as nothing but clean fuel is going through it, it won't clog. ;)

I have no experience with fuel pumps pushing fuel past a float valve or what they'll take, PSI wise. :/
I also don't know what the fuel pressure is on the 6 volt Bendix I use either. :/ Seems weak tho. ;)

A guy that had a sorry;) little Austin Martin told me about the trick to first fill the carburetor for quicker
starts, he worked in the Sacramento System Signal Shop in the late 70's.

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't been on lately to update. But we finally got the truck back on the road last Sunday!!

Dispite all of my questions about electrical fuel pumps, I ended up Not going that route...
Once we got the truck on the lift, the first thing we did was drained and dropped the fuel tank. While draining, we noticed little black pieces coming out, so we drained the entire tank. Then cleaned the tank out the best we could. It is a Very custom tank...I'm not sure how the guy came up with the fab job, but it works...

We later verified that the little black pieces were from some sort of rubber gasket or something... it was very wierd and we weren't exactly sure where they came from, but hopefully we got it all. Because the little black rubber pieces were all jammed up in the brass piece (shown in the pics on page 1). So that's why I wasn't getting fuel out of the tank.

I'm guessing the brass piece is just some sort of fitting that allows the fuel line to connect. We verified that I do already have a 3/8" fuel line, but the passage hole thru the brass piece is very tiny... and there is no type of filter in the tank before the fuel goes down to that brass fitting. Hopefully all will work out as long as the fuel and the tank stay clean. So if I have this problem again, I'm gonna look into getting a new tank with a better sending unit.

So since I just replaced the mechanical pump less than a year ago, and it seems to be working great, I didn't bother with the electrical pump or changing the fuel line. But I did put a clear glass filter on though. We put everything back together, fresh fuel, and the truck fired right up!!

What do you think about changing that brass fitting to something less restrictive?

My main/rear-tank had some little black pieces of something in it too.
Mine turned out to be the "sock" filter Ford put on the pickup tube. :/

When I removed the one in the aux/mid-ship tank and it seemed ok. (?)
I replaced 'em with a hunk of fuel hose that goes to the bottom tho! :)
That effectively increased my fuel capacity, cool huh? :)

Bent the arms on the fuel sending units too, so the floats would go down
close to the bottom of the tanks but not touch the bottom, don't want
it wearing through its protective coating. :)

Now when it reads "empty" it actually means something worth while IMO. :)

Heck, I just like to modify stuff. :)

Next time you decide to remove the tank I might suggest that you remove the current line and weld that hole shut and put a new one on top with a threaded bung and dip line into the tank a 1/4 inch from the bottom and take the steel line to the tank and install a rubber line to the threaded bung and line leading in that way if stuff gets into the tank it would take alot to suck it up thru the line, and makes a static break between tank and line and easier to service in the future.

Yeah I'm actually gonna check into that. Because its just gonna get clogged again if something else gets in the fuel...

Tim P. , yeah that sounds like a good idea. That's something I've thought about after seeing how my tank is hooked up with no fitration system. The fuel just drains to the bottom where the line is attached...
