I am going to pull the 429 back out of the 71 this summer to take it apart, clean it up, and most importantly, get more power out of it. It is a 429 thunderjet, with the DOVE-C heads.
What parts should i get to give this 429 a decent amount of power, since we will be racing it in 300 mile desert races?
What cam do i want? intake? carb? ill have work done on the DOVE-C's to get them flowing good. Ive got hedman headers already and a edelbrock 750 but might change that.
Basically i want maybe 450hp (throwin it out there) without depleting all my project funds.

70's internal balance 460 crank and pistons, 9.5-10:1 CR, port your doves and machine for real studs, Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 HP carb, 5500 RPM comp cam and springs, BBC roller rockers, stock oil pump, larger pan (for racing) and ARP rod bolts/BBC rocker studs.
Depending on tuning and cam choice this setup should net 400-450HP at the crank. On the Dyno I've seen this make 480HP/450TQ.
Buy some good forged pistons for racing use and possibly get some aftermarket rods, a larger oil pan will keep things cooler too and aftermarket oil pump drive shaft. These engines are pretty reliable below 5500 RPM. If you think you need more RPM than 5500 and take it to the next level it's going to cost a whole lot more if you want it to stay together in an endurance race situation. If you plan sustained higher RPM use- Above 4000- keep the stock volume oil pump. HV pumps are a bad thing in engines with larger bearing surfaces like FE's BBF's and BBC's. If you don't believe it put a HV pump in a boat engine and see what happens.

Hey Ryan, go to 460ford.com they have a sticky that covers what you need to get to what you want in the 460ci range then drop off approximately 25 hp for 429ci.
