1977 351w alt bracket?
So I switched to a 351w from a 302, but does anyone know how the alternator set up is when the alt is on the passenger side? My brackets wont work, because I have a waterpump that comes out on the right instead so I cant use the same bolts. Many 351w and 302 the water pump comes out on the left, does anyone know where to get the 77 bracket? Or can you show me how your alt hookup is on it? Any 302 or 351w with the water pump spout on the right will work, thanks.
Sorry I dont really know how to ask this but here it goes
The bracket for alternator with the water pump coming out on the right instead of the left is somewhat different, I need to know how the alternator bracket for that style would bolt up, what parts do I need and or how did those of you with a '77 351w put your alternator on.

I don't post much anymore but I went back and read some of your threads before I answered this to see if it was just me. What in the heck is your problem exactly? All I get is you want an alt bracket off of a '77 351 for some reason which I really don't understand. Not trying to be rude I just don't really understand what the problem is.

I think I understand what is being said....I think. Do you have pictures to show why your current bracket won't work. Ford wouldn't change bracket styles very often so I don't see why they would be different. Now when you get into 302/351w swaps from the 90's into mustangs things get a little different but for the purpose at hand I don't think there is a difference unless I don't know something.....which wouldn't be a first.

Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
i think the problem might be that your alt sits high on one engine and low on the other engine. try flipping the bracket over and moutning the 351 alt down low. there are high mount alternators and low mount alternators. its where the brackets are mounted that will do it. i cna get a pic of a low mount tomorrow.

Even if the blocks are the same? Thanks, Ill check out those pics when you get them up.
Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
No problem anymore, I just welded a nut to my engine puller, and it works just fine. What it was the bracket wasn't long enough how it should be, and I had to modify another bracket by cuting 2 other brackets and welding em together. It works, I got the 351w in, it was a bit rough but it went. Just got a few more things to do and it should be running.

Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
i forgot all about this picture today. the hooked bracket goes on the lower part of the engine and the triangle bracket sits upside down to hook up. thats the easiest way to tell you.
Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
Thats how it was originally, but some things were in the way, and I had to reverse it. But it all worked out, so no problems. It should be running today.

It might help if people knew that your 351W was A Marine application/boat engine, but glad you got it fixed anyways.

Well the block is still exactly the same, so It truely wouldn't matter.

Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
the 351 w is different than the 351 m and c those block have the timing housing made onto the blocks. as far as marine enignes though i don't know. i've never seen one in a boat.
Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
Well in the old days they put car engines into marine boats, but its exactly(Mostly) the same, the block is exactly the same. So everything can hook up the same way, but anyways.

Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
JMcTurnan,
I am getting close to putting a 351w in my 76, which has the same considerations as your 77. I am having difficulty in finding which oil pan configuration won't hit the steering linkage behind the cross member. I'velooked at two at a wrecking yard and one wouldn't work at all and the other was real iffy.
Are you using the marine oil pan? Can you post a picture of your set-up?
Thanks, 20c

Re: 1977 351w alt bracket?
i'd just use the front sump pan and forget about any hassles with the rear sump hitting anything.
