Hey SF..
There are a couple of things I would check out
It sounds like the float shut off valve is stuck open or is worn to the point that it no longer stops the fuel from coming in...
A mis-adjusted float would cause that too.
I am assuming that you have the stock style fuel pump installed ??

So, how many threads is this relating to the carb? 3? 4?
Just some sugestions.
1) keep it on one thread, then everyone who has tried to help and subscribed will get notice of a reply.
2) new people (of those as forgetful as me) can see what has been done.
Do you have the retiner clip on the float pivot? There should be a wire clip that goes over the pivot pin a lock in a groove in the seat.

My first thought when reading this thread title was: Detrol LA could help this problem.

If I recall correctly most float needles are made with flat sides and a round tip....its the tip that does the sealing in the needle seat. And not using the retainer clip on the float can create problems.

did you check out that diagram i posted the other day. it should show a picture of the square floast thing your talking about and part of that spring. the needle valve does kind of have flat sides with slight corners on it to help guide it in the body of the carb. i can add to that diagram if it isnt enough to figure it out.

The sort of U shaped end of that spring goes at the bottom of the needle right in the little groove at the base of it where it is closest to the float. The long straight end goes through a small hole in the float arm..................if I remember correctly......... for what its worth. If that spring isnt installed correctly......can almost guarantee you that it going to flood over........is no pressure being applied to the seat by the needle and nothing to stop the pump from overflowing the float chamber.
