I would grind a washer before peening the case myself if I was worried about it. The vibrations that work that pin loose from the cast iron engine block will work it through the much softer aluminum just the same.
That was my concern.... wanted to see if anyone else had that same thought without planting the seed. :lol:

I should have taken the time to make some measurements on the pin itself. It looks like this gear housing wasn't machined completely through that dowel pin bore. I was thinking that I didn't even need to pin it.

Anyone know the diameter of that dowel pin?

OK... got the cam gears swapped around and modified the key to fit. The marine cams use about half a keyway and I cut this one so that the retainer would actually seat against it by about .005" - .007". Torqued retaining bolt to 42 ft/lbs + 90 degrees.

If you have the stepped cover there's no need to worry about KDP. What cam are you running?

i like the theory of your KDP fix, but in practice, im not sure if it would be a reliable solution.

btw, i shouldve said this sooner, but not only is your project awesome, your workmanship is totally kick ass! ive always thought about putting a 6.9/7.3 in my truck, but being a prior 6x4 Cummins owner, im quite partial to the 6bts. should be a hell of a reliable truck when youre done with it.

I decided that I don't want to stack Advanced Adapter spacers (1.650") to couple a Ford NP205 (with Dodge gears) to my NV4500. Going this route would net me 3.300" leaving me .575" short.... and I would have to cut .290" off each side of the 29 spline output / input shafts.

The idea that I like better is just adapt the texas bolt pattern Dodge adapter to a NP205 driver drop case.

This way I will not be cutting anything but the adapter (yellow line in pic) and welding the small hole created by the cut.

I will use this divorced case and turn it into a married attachment... this will give me some options to help support the weight. Then strip my Dodge passenger drop case and install the gear set into the below Ford NP205 case.

Pulled the tail housing off my trans..... found that it has an updated 5th gear nut :eek: And a new 5th gear.... and a new reverse gear :(

What really amazes me is that the reverse idler is chipped and nobody replaced that :?

You can see that the main shaft has the typical wear in the area adjacent to the splines. So now my debate is to leave the mainshaft as is and tighten the crap out of a new updated 5th gear nut, get a full blown Torque King shaft (really not in my budget) or give one of the other full splined shafts a try...
