Truck doesnt Run right
I looked through the forums hopeing i could find someone else who has the same problem as me but didn't see anything. I hate asking for help but heres my problem. When the truck is idling it sounds pretty decent, somewhat smooth. But when you put it in to gear it just sounds awful, Vibrates bad, and sometimes died. We tryed adjusting the Carb but it didn't get much better. Anyone have any ideas? Its a 1969 Ford F-100 with a 360. Thanks.

Re: Truck doesnt Run right
I havnt drove it much to be honest. My grandpa had it for a long time and never drove it, he gave it to me instead of letting it sit forever. Since ive got it all ive really did is put a new radiator in and got the transmission rebuilt.

in that case i'd start at the points. either file them and regap or replace and regap.
Check any vacume line for cracks.
Has it got fresh gas in it?

LOL :)convincor wrote: Has it got fresh gas in it?
Me and another guy went a couple weeks trying to figure out a stumble in a kid's 2100.
Turned out we were working with 3 year old gasoline and he just happened to mention
how he was getting low on gas and it'd be his first fill-up with his "new" truck. LOL :)

Re: Truck doesnt Run right
As far as fresh gas goes. it did have old gas in it about last Nov when i got it, and i accidently ran it empty messing with the radiator back in Nov. Since then ive put a tank or two in it and let it run quite a bit new fuel filter today but i think the gas is ok

I would check for vacuum leaks. If it sat for a long time, some seals might of dried out and are not sealing now. Take some carburetor cleaner and aim at the base of the carb. If it stumbles, you have a vacuum leak and need to change the gasket.

do you have power brakes ? check for a bad brake booster. does the engine run better after you let off of the brake pedal?

Check out all the possibilities first before going and throw more money at it.

Re: Truck doesnt Run right
does sound like classic vacuum leak, will run in park, but dies off when putting in gear because it leans out.

Re: Truck doesnt Run right
Did you replace the fuel filter before or after you ran it out of gas? If it was before it could be your new gas filter collected all the junk from the bottom of the tank.

Re: Truck doesnt Run right
it does sound like a vacuum leak. You said the transmission was rebuilt; double check the vacuum line that goes from the engine to the vacuum modulator on the transmision, it may have been left off or rotted.
Re: Truck doesnt Run right
Yea sounds like a vaccum loss to me too, try new intake manifold gasket set, a distributor gasket if those dont work then move to other vaccums. On the transmission, it would most likely for Me to believe would be an intake because I had that same problem everytime I put it in gear it shut off so I put a new one on and it worked perfectly. If its not that I would say maybe a vaccum advance on the transmission.
