sharpened bump!!

hello all!! i know some of you have seen the recent postings of this truck in a couple different threads, but after a few of us had been staring at it for a while noticing one after the other(very well done, subtle modification ) mike68merc had noticed that the bump had a unusually sharp looking edge on it, and sure enough after he found some more info on the build he found out he was right, they had refined the bump line. i have to say its a very well executed body mod and one that i now have future plans on using myself, instead of the factory trim ive been planning on using the whole time.

Allot of the repop body panels come with that sharp edge. I was trying to figure out how to round them off, but now I am having second thoughts.

I can't wait to see what you do with the inspiration. I was amazed to see what they did with that bump myself. I had a conversation with mike at Roseville rod and custom and he mentioned they were making side trim pieces for the truck! I'm dying to see how those will turn out. I like the sharp bump because I've never seen it before. There is so much subtle greatness to that truck. My hats off to them and that build.

if you went for the no trim look that would be a good mod to the bump. i like it. it kind of brings back more of the look of the bump. or the reason the bump was put there in the first place. for that old time styling look. more busha busha i just dont care for those.

That thing is sweet. Yeah that sharpening on the bump edge seems to have given the illusion that they widened the bump.

yeah, that truck is full of skilled mods i would love to do to my truck but i dont have what it takes. i am interested in the roll pan behind the bumper though, but i dont think i will do that either. really cool mods

I just looked at it closer to see what i can spot.
1) he welded up the hood seam as well, i might do this
2) he molded the lower valance into the fender
3) is it me or is that bed snug against the cab with a smaller gap than ours? and look at the panel fitments!
4)smoothed front bumper, no spot for liscense plate

I plan to smooth the bedseams, hood seam, and even the cab seams on mine.

The truck belongs to Kirk Johnson and was built by Roseville Rod & Custom in northern California. I went up there about a month ago and shot it for our August cover and am ariting the feature (or should be) as I type this. The truck is absolutly amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Last weekend at the Goodguys show in Del Mar it won the nomination for the running of Truck Of The Year-Late. It's even has a 428 CobraJet motor!

I just got done writing the feature on it a few minutes ago, there's lots to it! Even after spending about 5 hours with the truck while I shot it at Roseville Rod & Custom, there were still tons of little things I was picking up. Some I wouldn't have even noticed if they didn't point them out, and I've spent alot of time with my own truck!
The August issue of CLASSIC TRUCKS with Kirk's '68 on the cover comes out the first week of June. By the way, he's owned the truck for 30 years, since he was 17.

Oh Yea! That is one the best lookin bumps I have ever seen!!! It will look awesome on that hot rod bump!! send us some pics of how you do it. Look forward to seeing how it turns out. Keep up the good work!!
