omg i cant get a spark,,,omg !!
heres what i done so far,,, im so close to selling it,, turning gay and trading it for a puple vespa due to stress from this truck .
i rebuilt carb,
new coil.
new wires and plugs,
good battery,
full tank.,
all it does is turn over and over,

My truck died at a red light a couple of days ago. I ended up swapping out the coil with an extra one I had and it started. Apparently my coil just died. At any rate it started right up after screwing with the ignition timing. I had pulled the distributor out in my panic and took it with me to have it looked at. Of course others here will give you more reasonable advice on the matter. Is the firing order correct... Fuel getting to the carb. I just use trial and error and usually the thing runs. Usually.

was the truck running before or are you just now trying to get it running? If it was working before trace your steps with one of the components you changed. I would double check the firing order for your engine, and make sure your spark plug wires are in the correct order, and pull off the distributor cap to make sure the rotor is pointing at your #1 wire when #1 piston is at top dead center. You may want to pull the distributor and check the drive gear as they do wear out, check the points, verify voltage to the coil when cranking and just trickle a little fuel down the carb, its gotta hit. when i changed the plug wires, i got the timing order confused and it would just crank and crank all day long. remember its just a machine, we are smarter and we can beat them! good luck, Dale

Even new parts can go bad so I would check the coil and also make sure the points are set correctly cause if they are off even a little bit then your done. Have you checked to see if it's getting fuel? I know dumb question but thought i'd ask

i am having a hard time following the flow of what has been happening with htis truck and its problems. can you please keep it all in one thread? please start over from the begging and give us the symptoms of what it was doign and what you have doen toit. and then tell us what it is doing now. new stuff can be bad as has already been said. a bad ground can make a coil act up. maybe the wire isnt contacting the coil right. maybe the wiring is rotten under the dash and only connecting when it wants to. diagnosis is the key to fixing anything. you have to understand that just putting on part after part will cot you more in money and time than getting the correct diagnosis the first time. not all doctors are right the first time so second opions are good.
so check for power to the coil with the key on.
if no power check the wiring to the coil.
if you have power to but no power out it could be the ground. cleanit and test again.
if no power with a good clean ground replace the coil with another one from the place you got the first one.
once you have power out to the spark plugs start the enigne and post how it runs and let us give some options on how to proceed.
or check the muffler bearing and blinker fluid. that alwasys fixes eveything.

My muffler bearing went out last weak, that sucker is hard to find at a parts store.
I like short and sweet, to the point, not giving all the details clearly the first time will hinder a true diagnosis. Getting correct information the first time will almost always result in a timely but yet truthful and effective diag. I worked in the auto industry and trust me people paid for not giving us all the info to their problems, we werent stealing their money it just took longer to diagnose.

yes im gettin fuel. last heard timing is correct., not the coil. ill try the points. before the rebuild it would start and drive a little . and would die. id have to almost flood it to get it to start again. , then it would go and die again. , it loved to run and then die.

Check that you are getting switch power at the coil. Then Check to make sure you have the power wire to the power side of the coil + , and the other side to the distributor.new coil.
If you didnt screw with the points that shoukldnt be the prob. If you did, use an ohm meter and disconnect the points. See if the points arm is isolated from the dist body. If not insulate.

Is the rotor in the distributor? Sometimes they get left out on accident. Dont ask how I know.

this is a long shot but check the fuel tank.I worked on a pinto several years ago kind of the same thing.would run then die checked everything.To make a long story short someone had put month balls in the tank.Just a tought.when it turns over does it act like the battery is going dead if it does its the coil
