Made some cool FE parts

Post by BMJs 67 »

I'm in the home stretch of getting my 390 off the stand and into the Bump. One area the I was not happy with was the fittings that run to the heater core. The fitting that runs in the intake was rusted through on the portion that hangs below the the threads and the fitting that comes up out of the water pump was cratered like the moon. After a little searching and some good advise from Hawkrod I figured I'd just make my own out of stainless so I never have this problem again.

Image

The nipple looks a little crooked on the intake fitting but that is because i can't run a camera well,,(insert beer here)

I also made the nipple that presses into the front of the intake since I had the lathe set up and all

Image

I still need to weld the intake fitting nipple, but other than that, these are fitting sweet!!

:yt: What about the "T" that splits the coolant for the spacer? Just a thought. Alot of people would buy these for sure. Good job. I wish I had fabrication talent.

With the cost of stainless and the time to make the parts on a manual machine a guy would be very hard pressed to make and sell a fine part like that for any profit.

Thanks for the compliments! I'd like to offer these up as a set eventually. I need to run them for a while to make sure they bullet proof before I hang my name on something going under someone else's hood.

The T wouldn't be hard to do at all,,,,,,,Just another hole to bore.

As for the cost, I've got three to five bucks a piece in material and a handfull of hours in program and de-bug time. Single pointing the pipe threads took up most of the time I have invested. It's one of those deals where I realize I'm never gonna get rich making and selling parts, but it sure would be cool to walk up to another truck and see something I made under the hood,,,,,,,,,, If I can cover the Research and development (BEER), that's even better yet!!

Got the fittings finished up and installed, they went in just like they were supposed to. I need to get the engine in the truck now and hook everything up but I'm not expecting any problems. I'll have to get a picture or two up of the installed units. Chances are good that I will make a few sets over the next few weeks for those who are interested.

Everything fit sweet! I started working on a new batch today. I need to do a little research on comparable parts to figure up the bucks. Thanks again for the compliments!!
