That whole thing has something to do with choke opening when
the engine has to have it open no matter what the weather is.
...or is the other way around? LOL :)

It's been a while since I was afflicted-with and cured-of all choke problems. ;)

Are you sure that is a Holley?

That is a choke pull off (aka vacumme break). Its function is to allow the choke plate to be fully closed during engine start but as soon as the engine starts it pulls the choke plate open. (hence the name pull off).

For any Holley parts you will need the (list) numbers, usually on the choke air horn. Either go to your local parts store or go online. You might try to google "Holley parts" or Holley Carburator" I bet Summit can fix you up. I have got parts right from Holley engineering if it is something not normally serviced by dealers. Now the question that begs answering is how the heck did you bust that part?

Well there not exactly the same, one doesnt have that vaccum break. This carb was broken from the beggining, and Im just trying to rebuild it, I need to get one of those and I believe it should be fixed if that would cause backfires? It was broken when I bought it, this is I guess the original carb on the 68' fairlane motor I have in it, the other one that I broke the ear off is a 80 f150 with 302.

backfiring through the carb is usually a timing issue. if it backfires with both carbs then it hass to be something other than two bad carbs. the problem is still exsiting with something other than either carb if both carb backfire.

It didn't do it on the first one, so I'm not 100% sure, but Ill check the timing out. Unfortunately I would buy a carb, but I have no money at all, so Im scrounging up a few bucks to see If I can get my truck running. I got a 351w Im getting this week, it just needs a new accellerator pump and gasket on the carb, Ill just fix it. But I dont want to just toss away the old carbs If I can get my moneys worth out of them.
