FE prices in your area?

Post by FreakysFords »

What are you all paying for FEs in your area?

Whatever FE you deal with or have recently. Car, Truck, 2v, 4v, 352 410, whatever.

Just curious really. I'd been paying MUCH less than some people I know around the states, but just found I can get some super deals in SC and have a friend bring 'em down during his travels. That got me thinking. Due to the nature of my business, and both of my jobs, engine deliveries could be fairly simple if planned ahead. I'm down to one buildable core and it's the right time of year to start dragging more in.

It's that time of year and soon will be time to get to work on some builds. This spring I'm only going to focus on the FE cause I have some things I want to try.

i can understand that link very well. but it is very unlikely that he would come up to get any of these. my statement was not as a sale opertunity but as a joke that fe's are usually very hard to get rid of . especially by going long distances fo rthem because of the cost of shipping them. i don't know how to tell him without making an agruement that he may be in a money losing situation doing what he is doing. that is why i posted like that. i do respect your request on the matter and usually don't come in and gibve much advise in here because it is mostly about headers and dirty carbs. headers either fit or they don't and dirty carbs need to be rebuilt or adjusted. i find that it is hard for me to explain about how to adjust a carb. this was meant not as a sale opertunity. is that link a sticky? it should be. i never seen it until now. thanks for pointing it out.

yeah as far as making money on a fe around here it is almost impossible. i had two of them awhile back that i tried to trade a guy. and they ran good and i could prove it but he opted instead to go buy a whol etruck just so he could hear it run in the truck before pulling it. and then he junked the truck. how strange of him. i could have gotten him a way better deal. i guess he has money to burn? fe around here are good by the boat load. they are good that way because boats need anchors. and i hate to see that happen to a good running engine. isn't that a pain to hear about? good luck in your endevors(sp)? . and i hope you can make all of your dreams come true. never listen to someone that says it can't be done. it can be.

when i was looking for an FE a couple of months ago, most people wanted between $400 and $800 for an FE that would need a complete rebuild. i finally found a nice 390 in good working order with no known oil-consumption issues. the 390 had no carb, but included everything else, even the accessories and a good C6. the price: $150. :D i had to drive about an hour and a half to go get it. i also had to remove it from the donor truck myself, but it was well worth it.

There are a couple 390s in the ads around here for $300 right now.

I'm sorry if I ask lots of questions, there's just a lot of stuff I don't know (yet).

Im with mad2smile, FE's are going for big $$$ around here right now. A junk FE of any displacement will run you $500. & thats just to get it home. Now you get to spend another grand or so to get it running.

For some reason the 390's seem to be the hot ticket right now. I talked to a guy the other day on the phone that had on for sale in the local thrifty nickel. It came out of a truck, so it was nothing fancy. He wanted $500 for it!! He said it had been sitting on a pallet in his barn for the last 15 years, so you know it will need a rebuild.

He also told me it was rare... "They didnt make many truck 390's" ..........Yeah, only like 5 zillion or so........... :pout:
