The "small block" I6 started out as a 144, then graduated on up through 170, 200, and the 250. The "big Block" started in 1965 as a 240 and graduated to a 300. This "big Block" replaced the earlier series that started as a 215, then went to a 223, and then to a 262. This series ended in 1964 and had the Manifolds on the Driverside.

The 170 and 200 were available in the original style Bronco. Never in the F series. I can't remember if they were in some early,1964ish Econolines. Part of me wants to say they were.

My first van was a "plumbers" econoline with a bad little six that got swapped for a big bad 200 w/ OD. So yep, they did :)
Looking to find a "plumbers truck" in the near future :)

Um.... :? anyone remember if the torque converters for transmissions that go behind 200's have the teeth instead of the flex plate?

One 200 that I got had a flexplate and no teeth, and I haven't been able to find a flexplate for a 200 with teeth.

The early Econolines (Vans & Pickups) came with the "small Block" and then changed over to the "Big Block" in 1965 as I remember. The early ones we had in the fleet had 3 spd Column shift and then our later ones had autos, so I have no experience with the early automatic types and no idea of what you may be into there.

Sadly, it seems that I rarely get responses when posting on fordsix.com

I know, that's because it's most all been said so many times. I find almost every question that can be answered has already been so beat to death in the faq that the guys who know, long ago tired of the same spiel. I only go to the 240-300 section so I am just assuming the small block section is the same. Still for me it is THE source for Ford six banger info. You just have to dig a little to find it.

Hm..I'll have to dig around a bit, but I'm working on removing the 351w out of the mustang now so that I could possibly trade/swap parts for a 6cyl C4.

I hate headers now though after having to remove every other header bolt with a pair of vice grips :x
