72 4x4 build

Post by whiteman »

Thought I would share my project with everyone here.
I got this truck around December 2008 and have been loving it ever since. Its a 1972 F-250 4x4, 390, 4spd, D24, D44, D60. The motor is rebuilt and every thing else is falling apart. The first picture you will see is how it was when I bought it, second pic; a set of tires and wheels and that's about how its been since I bought it other than a handful of broken U-joints. I replaced the front Closed knuckle drum D44 with a 76 F-250 open knuckle disc brake D44. However it is going under the knife now and will become a little more luxury oriented tow rig. I have some parts gathered for a power steering conversion, I got a 68 F-100 for some donor body parts ie: inner fenders and interior pieces. Here are a few pics to get this started in about 12hrs I will post the "main course" of this build

Nice truck, love those highboys.

Looks like a cool project. I hope the triton has enough go for you. The modular S5-47 you have should be a 31 spline output even though it's a 99.

I do expect it to out perform the 390 but not be a real power house. I have driven 5.4 tritons for the last 6yrs and have been very pleased with its reliability and performance. Most were E-250 or E-350 vans but were heavily loaded with plumbing stock. I have tritons that are still running strong with 230k on them.

I do plan on a CTD 12v swap but I would like to start that build with a crew cab.

Is the 390 running on all cylinders  ? As long as it's what you want enjoy it!

I guess I got a little hasty, I should not say I expect the 5.4 to outperform the 390 I just thought it would be a cool swap. I got the superduty for $400 and had nothing else to do with it. It will be a toss up wether or not this motor gets put in. I will however be doing the power steering conversion and painting it and other small touches it needs.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
