float issue? fuel pressure issue?
alright, so i made a few carburetor adjustments, as instructed in my other thread (http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =3&t=39580). trouble is, there is still fuel coming from the bowl vents. after starting the truck, it takes about 1-3 seconds for the fuel to start pouring over the vents. i know this is probably a float issue, but when i remove the top of the carburetor, the float is floating (not sunken), and the stopper on the other side is fully seated.
i really need to get rolling again. any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you think the float might be sticking open?

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
Did you buy a O/H kit or just go in to make adjustments?
I would buy a kit with a new needle valve and seat and adjust the float using the cardboard gauge in the kit...

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
mechanical pump. replaced about a year and a half ago. swapped from old engine to 390.
the carburetor was rebuilt with an overhaul kit, including a new needle and seat.

Then the float is not properly adjusted or there is a piece of dirt between the valve & seat.mad2smile wrote:mechanical pump. replaced about a year and a half ago. swapped from old engine to 390.

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
no dirt. i made sure. and ive checked the float and fiddled with the adjustment many times and the issue keeps happening.
it almost seems like the fuel pressure is too high, but its the same pump i used before. i thought about getting an inline regulator, but it still doesnt make since because the pump worked fine before.

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
i left the float adjustment the same as it was when the carb was on the other engine. it worked just fine then, but was overflowing on this engine after the carburetor was rebuilt. as stated earlier, i have fiddled with the float a few times since then, but same issue.

Who O/H'd the carb? If it was you, how many have you done? (Sorry, not trying to sound like a jerk).

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
no offense taken.
i did the rebuild, and it was my first time doing so. i took my time, and made sure all parts were accounted for.

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
it probably wouldnt effect anything, but i just remembered that i didnt put the small screen in under the seat. the rebuild kit didnt come with one, so i left it out. the old screen is in good shape, so im gonna try to see if installing it makes a difference at all. probably not, but who knows...

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
the screen helps keep the dirt out of the fuel bowl. is your float catching at all whent he fuel bowl is full? can you push down on the float and it springs right back up everytime? or does it catch on one push or another? if it catches something is stopping it from working properly and that is the flooding problem.

Re: float issue? fuel pressure issue?
tried adjusting the float further down. no difference. here are a couple of pictures of the float level. at this level, the needle seems to be fully seated, but fuel is still getting by somehow.
