70 F100 SWB 2WD
Hi everybody,
I just bought a 70 F100 SWB 2WD last month. I got it for a grand and from what I saw( and I know where to look) it has very little rust and just a few dings in the body. I am trying to decide which way to go with this new project. I have had many bump side trucks in my life from SWB 2wd to LWB 4x4 monsters to streetrods. I am thinking about getting a 73-77 F250 4x4 and shorting the frame and putting my body on it( don't wanna cut the shorty frame up) if anyone can give me any reason this is a terrible Idea just speek up.

It ain't terrible, but the cab mounts on the back aren't the same. I don't know about bed mounts.

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
I thought the cab mounts were the same. Everything I have heard and read on here says that the frames were the same on all those years from the cab foward. as for the bed, I figured that that would not be as easy but do-able with a little effert. I should have time to figure it out. I still have 11 months left over here in Iraq. I have lots of time to dream about it but no time to actually crawl under anything and take any measurements. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
New update, decided to leave it 2wd. I wanna wait and find a 70's model crew cab for the 4wd. I'm thinking now that it needs to be a little lower to the ground. Its going to get a 351W hopefully pushing 400hp, a built c4 and some new stronger acles in the 9 in with 4.10 gears.

Can anyone tell me the best lowering kit for the price. I don't wanna drag the fram or anything, just a little lower stance for that old hotrod look.

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
A lot of people here use DJM Suspension products. They use the dream beams up front, which give 3" of drop. And in back a flip kit is 4"+ I think, or the hanger which rellocates the the leaf springs and gives 4" of drop.

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
thanks Stroker, I was kinda wonder were is the best place to order the kit from. I have lots of time on the internet( nothing else to do with your free time in Iraq). everything I get has to be ordered and shipping time is no problem( still in Iraq). I have also decided to put a 408 stroker in it. Hopefully get about 450 to 500 hp out of one of those. ![FORDification Rocks! :fr:](./images/smilies/icon_FORDification.gif)

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
Your welcome blgold. You can get that DJM stuff from summit racing for a little over $700. And this is just a guess, but i'm not sure you would get 450 to 500 hp out of a 352/360/390 turned into a 408. I think if you had a 352/360/390 and used the 390 rods/pistons and 428 crank with everything else stock you would mabey be at 350 to 400 hp, just a rough guess though.

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
I plan on building a 351W stroking it out to 408. I figure with a good set of heads and intake with the right cam, 450 hp should be easy to reach. $700 seams pretty good price for the kit if its the whole kit. ![Happy Dance :hd:](./images/smilies/icon_dancing.gif)

Re: 70 F100 SWB 2WD
this place is great. I am glad I have so much time to read and learn from you guys. This is what I am kinda thinking now(but not closing any doors just yet) 390 with aftermarket heads/intake/cam, DJM lowering kit front and rear, and ladder bars for traction control. I am thinking about the Crown Vic front end but I don't wanna have a different bolt pattern in the front and back and don't wanna lose my 9in in the rear. Still looking for 450 Hp, has a C6 for trans right now, haven't really thought about it to much though. Any advise is very welcome.
