My 1971 F250 Custom 7.3 Diesel Project....4x4 Frame Swap!!

Post by ares360 »

it has begun.......

Pulled the old 390 out. had broke exhaust manifold bolts, oil leaks from rear main seal, timing cover, and the carb need rebuilt. I still got $300 dollars out of it.

Got my 7.3 a couple of weeks ago for a decent price. Had to basically pull it myself though. :o

Next weekend hopefully it will get warmer. I need to:

pull the old gas tank, cut out the exhaust, pull off the front clip, wire brush all of the grease and dirt off.

Plans are to:

(Items I have) :woohoo:

Install 5" 45 degree cut-off stacks.

Install 50 gallon aluminum tank off of a reefer trailer. It will be installed in the bed between the stacks.

Install Sony CD player and speakers, maybe subs since I will have room behind the seat.

(Items to find)

Install a 6 speed transmission.

Install cab lights.

Install leather seats out of newer model Ford.

New Paint.

New wheels and tires.

Also need to get rid of some stuff or trade. Any takers?

Old seat

Gas tank

4 speed with granny transmission

Very nice. Is it a turbo 7.3? Intercooler? Give us progress reports.

The engine hasn't been worked on yet. As soon as I get it in the truck, then it is going to the diesel guru. As of right now though, it is a basic 7.3 international out of an 1992 F350.

Then after he is done with it, it will be off to the muffler shop to have the exhaust routed to the stacks.

Thats a nice looking truck you got there. It'll be sweet once you get that diesel in there. Good luck on your project.

cool, I have been looking for you. I don't have a new turn signal switch. the spring and frame are good. just where you sit your butt is it pretty much gone.

That's probably a better way to go since the motor sits so close to the steering box on the 2wd trucks.

It's 4 inches longer. The frames the same, the springs are just further back. Move the springs and it works fine.

I measured it myself, it was 6" longer. It could be longer because it had a flatbed on it, i don't know. obviously you are talking about moving the back springs forward, wouldn't moving them 4 to 6 inches forward put them at a bad angle because of the bend in the frame?

does anyone have pics of what I am talking about?
