air cleaner bolt

Post by fordman »

i thought the air cleaner bolt on any ford 2bbl carb would be the same as fra as threads on top of the bolt for the air cleaner thickness. but the one i switched onto another carb didn't have enough threads to hold down the air cleaner lid at all. i still need 1/2 an inch before the wing nut touches the air cleaner lid. well no matter. i will take it off and put more threads on it. i guess all truck air cleaners aren't the same thickness. i figured a 78 302 air cleaner would not be thicker than a 72 air cleaner.

It's very possible the air cleaner stud was replaced by a previous owner, perhaps for a low-profile chrome filter.

if it was replaced. they replaced it for one that would fit a larger or thicker air cleaner.
