Engine Stand Bolts for a 360

Post by michaelwrenn »

I'm just about ready to pull the motor and put it on the stand. I know that I need grade 8 bolts but I do not know the bolt size. Does anyone know the exact size. This will save me from running around town trying to match up a bolt.

Thanks in Advance,

Michael

the head on the engine/transmission bolts are 5/8. so the bolt would be a 1/2 i think. length depends on your stand.

The bolts that hold the block to the engine stand will be the same that hold the bellhousing to the block. Try simply re-using your bellhousing bolts. If they're not long enough, take one of the bolts to your local hardware store and get some that are slightly longer as required.

They won't be long enough. Pull a bolt out of the bellhousing and take it to Autozone. Ask them if you can find a bolt in their bolt bin which are drawer/trays in the back. Get some hardened bolts and flat washers. I don't remember how long mine had to be. Measure the length of the spreader piece on your engine stand.

Not all engine stands are the same either.

Your best bet is to pull one of the top two out to check the thread.

Measure the bosses on the engine stand, allow for washers and add about a half inch...

That should get you going...

This was exactly correct. I went with a 5 inch bolt as the stand has 4 inch ports. I may need to add washers if the bolts end up being a bit long.

Thanks all for the help. Next step, pull engine. :D
