Rhoads lifters

So I'll be changing to a 4 barrel on my 360 soon and figured I'd change the lifters too, as I have one that taps a little when it's been running hard for a few hours. I was wandering what you all have to say about Rhoads lifters, and if they are worth the extra $50 they would cost me. They claim power gains with big cams, but I'm leavin the stock bumpstick in there for now. What do you think?

You don't want them with a stock cam particularly if you are changing the stock ones because they are noisy. :wink:

That's good to know, especially since I'm trying to quiet it down. So, how do they work? Do they act like a self adjusting mechanical lifter or something along those lines? I'm just curious...

In very basic terms, the orfices in them are larger and allow them to bleed down at low RPM.

I've heard two engines that I know had Rohdes lifters and they both sounded like they had a bunch of bad lifters in them.

To me it sounded like a solid lifter engine when I ran mine in my 351C 4V.

Same here. Had a set in my 351C- 4V also. All 16 were clattering all the time. They used to advertise in the 70's or 80s about "the lifters that tick". They are classified as anti-pump up lifters, which many cam outfits sell that dont make noise.

I've got a set in my 410. I don't notice a lot of noise, but I do have LOUD exhaust. They work really well for smoothing out the idle on a big cam-but would have no use on a stocker.
