Rhoads lifters
So I'll be changing to a 4 barrel on my 360 soon and figured I'd change the lifters too, as I have one that taps a little when it's been running hard for a few hours. I was wandering what you all have to say about Rhoads lifters, and if they are worth the extra $50 they would cost me. They claim power gains with big cams, but I'm leavin the stock bumpstick in there for now. What do you think?

Re: Rhoads lifters
You don't want them with a stock cam particularly if you are changing the stock ones because they are noisy.

Re: Rhoads lifters
That's good to know, especially since I'm trying to quiet it down. So, how do they work? Do they act like a self adjusting mechanical lifter or something along those lines? I'm just curious...

Re: Rhoads lifters
In very basic terms, the orfices in them are larger and allow them to bleed down at low RPM.
I've heard two engines that I know had Rohdes lifters and they both sounded like they had a bunch of bad lifters in them.

To me it sounded like a solid lifter engine when I ran mine in my 351C 4V.

Same here. Had a set in my 351C- 4V also. All 16 were clattering all the time. They used to advertise in the 70's or 80s about "the lifters that tick". They are classified as anti-pump up lifters, which many cam outfits sell that dont make noise.hotrodfeguy wrote:To me it sounded like a solid lifter engine when I ran mine in my 351C 4V.

I've got a set in my 410. I don't notice a lot of noise, but I do have LOUD exhaust. They work really well for smoothing out the idle on a big cam-but would have no use on a stocker.
