going to a 4BBL and intake do I keep the EGR?
1970 390 w/2bbl F250 I am thinking of purchasing a performer intake and a 600 cfm performer carb and their performer plus cam for my 390. Currently the 2bbl set up has a EGR plate benith the carb. Can I get a EGR plate for the 4 bbl? Edlebrock offers the manifold and carb in either w/ or without a EGR I am confused on which one to purchase. I would like to keep the truck within emission standards.

Do you mean the PCV? That engine doesn't have an EGR system. You can usually just run a hose from the valve cover to the large vacuum port on front of that Edelbrock carb. Other wise you might be able to find a spacer with a place to put you PCV hose.

Right....EGR didn't come until '73. If your truck has that setup, the engine has been transplanted from a later application.....and you can definitely get rid of it. Your engine will thank you...since that setup basically dumps hot dirty exhaust back into the engine to be reburned. Not necessary on your truck, if being emission-legal is your primary concern, and you should see a slight performance increase, even though the EGR (when it's working properly) only works in a cruise situation, not at idle or WOT.

The way it is routed is there is a PCV valve on the passenger side valve cover and the hose is attached to a baseplate below the carb. Then I also have a vent hose from the drivers side oil filler cap going to the air filter this doesnt have a PCV valve on it. So I could just install two filter vents at each location and be done with it?

You could, but I wouldnt.
The PCV's vacuum, at all throttle positions except wide open throttle (WOT), pulls gasses and pressure from the crankcase. This not only helps take away moisture and corrosive gasses, but also helps keep pressure from building to help seals last longer.
The second hose, to the breather cap, has two purposes. Normally, it is a vent to let air in or allow any surge with big throttle position a place to go. Its second purpose is that when you are at WOT, the PCV cant do its job because vacuum is zero. This is where the air rushing into the carb creates vacuum in the air cleaner and sucks through that other hose to relieve pressure.
You can run a PCV on one side and an open breather on the other side, but if possible, its better to run the full closed system if you air cleaner allows it. The PCV is really a must though for long seal life and to keep moisture/yuck out of the oil

- A bumbside should not have EGR.
- I can't find any listing for an Edelbrock manifold that fits an FE with EGR?

keep the pcv valve. it will cause problems if you elminate it.

Thanks for the replies, Sorry for the confusion,PCV I'm a little confused where do I run the hose to from the PCV valve to Air filter or the manifold or to the carb ? like I said the old one ran to that base plate which the radiator coolant flows through also. The truck was originally sold in California. If it were a EGR then it would be tied into the exhaust and the rerouted to the intake to re burn any unburned gases right ?

A PCV will need a 3/8 hose going from the carb or a vacuum port on a spacer or port directly to the PCV in the valve cover.
The connection to the aircleaner would be from the other valve cover.
Think In and out, if you are sucking things out of one side with the PCV, the other side is letting it back in.

Thanks, I got it now. I downloaded the manual for the carb and it does have a port for the PCV and the other will go to the filter like you said in and out.
