300 6 cylinder manifold bolts

Post by 67MercM100 »

I know someone will know this right off the bat. I've searched, but can't find the answer.

How many bolts are there for the 300-6 intake? Short of standing upside-down in the engine compartment, I'm not sure if I've found all of them. I don't feel any up under there that I've missed. I'm pretty sure I have all of them out for the exhaust manifold.

IF I had them all out, is there a trick in separating the manifolds from the block?

Sorry to ask such basic stuff. :hmm: But ya gotta learn somewhere sometime, right?

Thanks in advance. ~Eric

If you got them all it would fall off I think, always have for me.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I'll have to go count again when I get home from work. 11 seems about right.

Does anyone have any pictures of the manifolds off the block, or of the block w/o the manifolds. That might help.

Otherwise, there must be some really sticky gaskets on there. I suppose I could whack 'em a few times with a hammer.

Yep. I came up with 11. Eight are 'up top' where you can see them:
There's the first one up front on the exhaust manifold.
Then there are 5 more that appear to be holding both manifolds.
There's one last one in the back on the exhaust & last one in the very back on the intake.

Underneath I found 3 more "hidden" in between the 2 parts; all in front of the carb/exhaust outlet.

Behind the carb/exhaust outlet & underneath I can't feel any more of them. I definitely can't see any more of them.

I also removed two nuts around the carb intake that I assume are what bolts them together.

And yet bounce the truck up and down just by grabbing onto the front of the intake and pushing and pulling on it... :? :dk: :hmm:

Sounds like its time for a BFH and a BFP. I counted 12. 7 on the top and 5 on the bottom. The 3 on the bottom are before the carb and 2 are after. Hope this helps but there are 12. I have a 300 sitting in my shop that I pulled out last night so its easier to see all of them.

Don't pry on it yet! According to my handy dandy Chiltons truck book it's got thirteen. Check it out:

Hope this helps!

:woohoo: :fr:
One bolt is "unaccounted for". Probably lying underneath the truck somewhere or not placed with the others (or never there...?).
That one underneath just behind the carb got 'er.

And...yes...they do fall right off once you get all the bolts out.

:hd:
Thanks again everyone!!!
