'69 and '76 4x4 motor mounts?

Post by green68250 »

Are 4x4 motor mounts interchangeable between '67-'72 and '73-'79? I have a '76 and the motor mounts look the same as the ones in my '69. The '79 has a 300 and my '69 has a 390. I want to put the 390 in the '76 and am wondering if I can use the motor mounts from the '69 in the '76?

Thanks,
Corbin

67-76 are the same. 77 early is it's own beast, 77.5-79 are totally different.

The frame stands for FE and 300 six are the same stamping, but the holes in them to bolt to the frame are drilled differently. You can interchange them, but you must drill a few new holes in the stands. 300 six stands bolt to the forward holes in the frame, FE stands bolt to the rear.

Cool, thanks for the info. Thats one less thing I need to pull at the junk yard. Now will the np435 and 205 be able to stay in the same place in the '76 frame when I mount them to the 390 or will I have to move the tranny aswell? Basically when I move the motor mounts for the 390 will it drop right in and mount to the tranny? Using the proper bell housing of course.

Thanks,
Corbin

You shouldn't have to worry about any of the tranny stuff. I put a 390 in a 76 highboy that was a 300 and it all fit fine. I had holes for half of the tower bolts and just welded the towers down on the other side.
On the 2wd the early left side tower is a bit different, they had to change it for the later power steering in 68.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
