Do stock 302s have the trapeze throttle linkage
I'm swapping a 71 302 from a econoline van into my 71 F100 short bed. I'm going for factory original and want to know if the 302s in trucks had the trapeze throttle linkage? I know the FE did because I have played with plenty of those, but I have no idea about the 302 powered 67-72 ford trucks.
thanks

And the answer is....................... yes. The 302 does use the trapeze linkage. Wether or not it is the same as the FE , I don't know.

Throw it away.
It is a joke! And it is a different part number I believe.

No, I think I will stick with the trapeze. Some people have trouble adjusting it and don't like it. Ford's engineers put it there for a reason. I think I will stick with them on this one......once I find one. hmmmmm Maybe hawkrod knows if they are the same part number...

i have never had a problem with the trapeze thing myself. i don't see a problem with them. i have never seen one on a 302 but i'm positive that they were on there. have you tried puttign the fe one on there to see if it will fit?

Re: Do stock 302s have the trapeze throttle linkage
No, I haven't tried the FE one yet. I'm still researching it a little. Plus all my FE parts are put up.
The 302 from the van (of course) doesn't have one and I'm still in the process of pulling it out. I'm planning on restoring the 302 to original (factory 2V and everything). The only problem is the van 302 only has add-on AC and I'm planning on factory AC and PS. I'm going to have to find out if the factory truck brackets were the same as the car brackets. hmmmmm

Yes, if you could find out about it I would apreciate it. Is it from a 69-72? Also does his truck have original PS and AC? If so I would really like some pictures if possible.

Re: Do stock 302s have the trapeze throttle linkage
I am rebuilding the 302 in my 70' F100. It has the trapeze linkage and everything else stock. If you are still in need, just let me know. I am doing a bunch of aftermarket conversions so much will be available.

Re: Do stock 302s have the trapeze throttle linkage
I scrapped mine. The rod broke on an incline one day, so I was stuck near the top until I McGyvered the thing back together and winged it home. Since then, I cant trust the 30+ year old linkage. I plan to go cable soon.

Tons of pictures from the engine bay. Is he keeping the AC and PS? I don't think his AC brackets will work on a 351. I might be wrong.70shortwide wrote:boy are you in luck. the odds were slim, but he does have ac and power steering. 4 spd truck too. anything else you need?

If the linkage broke on an incline like that, then your mounts are bad. Don't get me wrong, a cable is great, but I'm going for original.Joshpow wrote:I scrapped mine. Re: Do stock 302s have the trapeze throttle linkage
I checked the rest of the junk. It all looked fine. Nothing bent, broken or extremely worn. The stupid thing broke where the threaded part ended on the rod. The late 70's trucks had a cable. I've seen them on 78/9 and later trucks. I plan to modify one. I understand the keeping original though. My only thought is the incorrect engine block would stand out as bad as a throttle linkage to a trained eye. The casting numbers would tell all.
