Re: cam?
The *perfect* cam for an FE is two cams with the SOHC or Cammer.
To find your perfect cam it completely depends on what your doing. Fun power is built with matching parts. FE's have an almost infinite number of differing factory and aftermarket parts you could match up.

Re: cam?
if your not dial-up, go here and download the compcam software. fill in what you got and you'll get recomendations.

that said, I'm looking at the XE262H for mine. similar set up running early tall port heads.

360/c6, 3:00 or (3:73) rear gears, valves and heads are stock. will add a 670 holley and edel. performer intake. truck has headers already. swb f100427 wrote:Need more info like auto or stick? rear end gear? And how you plan to drive it?

Re: cam?
Hot Rod Ford this is my opinion. I would recomend the Comp Cams 270 high energy or if you change the converter I would use the 280 magnum. I personally run the comp magnum in a 294 grind its a solid lift cam and your 360 is hydraulic. I also run a 4spd. But your on the right track with your add ons. It should run very good with the extra performance and 3:73 gear. Hope this helps,Brian.

Re: cam?
too much carb, no flowing heads. Stick with a basic "rv" grind. Most cam companies don't understand the flow characteristics(sp?) of the FE, let alone the various combinations. For what you have , possibly a "262 "series from comp. If you can call the cam tech line from whatever maunfacturer, and get one of the old dogs...so much the better.Be realistic when you talk to them, and the more info on your combination, the better.hotrod ford wrote:360/c6, 3:00 or (3:73) rear gears, valves and heads are stock. will add a 670 holley and edel. performer intake. truck has headers already. swb f100427 wrote:Need more info like auto or stick? rear end gear? Re: cam?
Hot Rod Ford it would depend on which cam you choose? If you get a rough lopey cam you definetly need a stall converter. The good is you get better take offs because of the higher r.p.m. before it locks up,the down side is these babies make an engine suck a lot of fuel faster. I would stay more with the 270 duration series of cam for better drivability. If you did get a converter I think a 2,000 stall would be plenty imo. I used to have a 351 Clevland in my 68 and it had a 280 cam in it and the factory stall and I had to put in in neutral at red lights or it would load up and die. Hope this helps you.Brian.

Re: cam?
If it was me...... I would call Ken @ Oregon Cam Grinders and tell him what you have, what you are trying to do. He will punch out a killer shaft for your FE. Ken has ran FE's for years and has a very good understanding of them, when most cam companies do not! I never cared for off the shelf cams myself.
By the way. Kens prices are VERY reasonable and you will be VERY happy with it. JMHO

This is about like asking "what’s the perfect girl", which is to say it is impossible to answer and any answer you may get is likely to be opinion and conjecture.
That said, Crane 343801 (343802 for a kit) is my opinion based on the information provided.
