How do I stop air leaks?

Post by HOWDY69 »

I plumbed my new compressor and the fittings leak. I used Teflon tape the first time and after I found the leaks I re-plumbed without the tape. The leaks were worse without the tape. Coming out of the side of the tank is a reducer, nipple, valve, nipple, filter, nipple, regulator, nipple and quick connect. Should I try some pipe dope or do I just need a bigger wrench?

i use pipe dope any more. its faster but can be messy sometimes. your fitting should be pipe threads and not flare fittings into pipe threads. those will always leak. i dont know if you have done that. but i have seen people try and do that on water lines. and they never seeem to work. also reducing the number of joints can help in any riggings that have been put togther. such as if you start with a female from the tank don't use a male to female connector and then a pipe nipple to get back to male for the filter or what ever. elminate the male to female and just put in a longer nipple to get out of the tank and into a fitler or wahtever that is also female. this is just an example. reduce the number of joints as best as you can.
