Push rods

Ok for any body that's wondering I got my exhaust on hedman headers into 2 ans 1/2 pipes in front of the rear tires. It sounds amazing!!! My next quest is this irratating ticking I'm almost positive it a collapsed lifter in cylinder 1. My question is what size pushrods are the stock 1's? Also who's got ideas for aftermarket lifters, best quality while not blowing a cavern in the bank?

I don't know what engine you have, so no help on the push rods. On the lifters, Summit, or Jegs house brand is usually a safe buy and a fair price. Just a note on break in. The lifters are going to be harder than the used cam lobes and could create excessive ware on the cam at start up. Allot of the cam mfg's are reccomending using Rotello (spelling?) for breakin because most standard motor oils don't have the lubricating quallitys they once did.

Sry its a 360. Can a collapsed lifter create further problems? Bc I was gonna wait till I throw a new cam in there b4 I put the new lifters in, but if it can create more problems then I will put it in soonder

Jay,
The fe motor is different from the small blocks I am use to. There are evidently allot of very specific issues to how they work, and why. So I am out of any specific help here. However, The second page in the ENGINE section has a post titled " Who has done hp mods to their 360 ". It is a good place to start your quest for answers. Take a look. It would be a good idea to find the cause of the noise, if the lifter is simply collapsed it won't really hurt anything, but if it is wiped the cam lobe or something of that nature then it could be spreading debris through the engine which can be very bad.

You can also usually buy lifters each so if you can verify it is only one its possible you could replace it without pulling the manifold, but be aware that if th cam lobe is bad it will destroy the new lifter in minutes...

As for pushrod size - Diameter or length?

I'm almost positive it hasn't wiped the lobe, but we will find out. I need diameter and length on the push rod. thanx

Give me a little while, I'm going to have to look it up in the Ford Manual, there are 4 lengths one standard for non-adjustable rockers, one standard for adjustable and two for use in correcting lifter preload on non-adjustables.

Ok I'm assuming mine are non adjustable but I don't know how 2 tell

Diameter does not matter on a hydraulic FE but length does you need to take one out.

If you just installed headers and got the tick I bet you have a exhaust leak at the head flange. That can sound just like a tappet when they are small leaks.

1965/67 352 & early 1968 360/390: C4TZ6565B .. 9.62"
Late 1968, 1969/76 360/390: C8AZ6565A .. 9.59"
Then there are two undersizes and one oversize listed for each application.
I got my new pushrods from my local CarQuest. Just had to measure mine. You may also want to check for a worn or damaged rocker.

That is what I come up with as well, with .060 oversize and underssize.

These should be ball/ball

Pushrods for Adjustable rockers (not shell) are 9.35" and for adjustable rockers with shell type lifters 10.70 and ar ball/cup.

Never could come up with diameter, but true it really doesn't matter unless you are going to raise spring pressures.

When I raced full time in the drag race community my solid lifter motors even had the same diameter tube with thicker inner walls and ball and cup ends for adjustable FE rockers. I did have some adjustable push rods and they are belled on the top for the adjuster in the ball ball format. We never made the push rod holes larger around due to the danger of a casting shift opening up a hole into the intake. We would slot them for over .650 lift cams on the fuelers but the slot was very carefully cut in one axis only.
