found a truck on Craigslist, decided to check it out and build it as the offraod truck. turned out the truck was a rusted away piece of scrap so we bought it for $600. pulled the 429, scrapped the truck for $400. kept the new aluminum diamond-plate toolbox, sold all good parts. so it evened out as getting it for free got the edelbrock carb for $40 or maybe it was $60 from a swap meet, and some duplicolor paint.

hey that pic doesnt look like sand, i thaught this was a pre-runner , are you gunna chop off the rear of the frame and build a tube frame with a 4 link or leave the frame and stick with the leaf springs? do you have any sorta traction bar to keep the power of that beast from warping the leafs?

were going to keep the full stock frame since we will be using Deaver leaf springs. no leaf spring setup is as good as a 4 link but for our budget and simplicity we will be using leaves. the Deavers should soak up bumps just fine, its what a majority of the prerunners use.aramil wrote:hey that pic doesnt look like sand, i thaught this was a pre-runner , are you gunna chop off the rear of the frame and build a tube frame with a 4 link or leave the frame and stick with the leaf springs? do you have any sorta traction bar to keep the power of that beast from warping the leafs?
right now its all stock with just 2 of the bottom leaves gone. its still as stiff as a rock, but it is a little better for the meantime. very little of the engines power gets to the ground, mainly because the tires are bald, and on dirt.
nope he stayed dry. well except for when he rolled his window down just before a puddle for some reason19674x4 wrote:i feel sorry for the camera man. aka your dad. musta got soaked.

Hey Ryan, where's that road? I'm over in Palo Alto (just south of San Francisco) but it's always good to know about areas like that within driving distance.

the trail is in Latrobe, which is El Dorado county i think. its right off of Latrobe road, where Scott road t's into it. there is a bunch of fun whoop-dee-doo roads on the way too, and the drive around that area is nice

since we are going to be starting the cage soon, i decided to clear up space in the cab so we have room to work. i pulled the in-cab tank and installed a 32 gallon fuel cell in the bed. no im just kidding, i wish instead i just mounted it right up the the bed behind the cab and ran 6 feet of fuel line over there. the truck didnt even stall when it was running off the gas in the carb and the fuel pump was sucking fuel through all that line.
here is the masterpiece. notice the 2x4's on the bottom i'll probably make some mounts at the welding shop to support the bottom since we plan on going back to that trail.
yay no more in-cab.
fuel lline was routed on a crossmember. check out the muffler mount thats the nut there at the very bottom of the mount, hanging by a thread.
oh and for the most fun while doing this, make sure the tank is topped off with gas so it weighs too much for me to handle, and it sloshes out the cap onto you when pulling it. and its alot more fun without any help too

Does this mean you relocated the fuel tank with the engine running? I thought they only did stuff like that in The A Team.1971ford wrote:the truck didnt even stall when it was running off the gas in the carb and the fuel pump was sucking fuel through all that line.

no it was off for sure
when i turned the truck on after i finished relocating the tank it didnt die when it had to pull gas from the tank through all that line.
