Re: Electronic ignition conversion
sorry... It's a '68 F-100 with a 240 I-6. I didn't mean to say HEI, just electronic ignition. I've found a little bit of information, and I am sorting through it right now. Any more info would be helpful.
Thanks

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
Or go with Pertronix or Compufire. Both simple and easy. Depends on how you want to go about it. Not trying to start anything , just giving options.

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
You two are so busy jumping on the Duraspark that you forgot to give the Petronix part number for the conversion. Oh you can't Petronix does not list one for the 240 300 I6 in their catalog.

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
Another vote for the durospark. My friend had a 300 I6 and got a durospark dizzy and the MSD 6A box and it ran great. You can also use the Ford Durospark box too.

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
you know the only bad thing about electronic ignitions. especially duraspark is when they go bad and you have to chase down what part went bad. like the duraspark box. with point you just get the nail file out of the glove box give the points a quick shine job and your on your way.

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
My vote is for Duraspark. Don't know why everyone dogs on 'em. If you do it right, bite the bullet & do it with factory(Motorcraft) parts, you don't have problems. Ford spent millions on engineering to make sure it worked. Besides, when you're about 16 miles outside of East Jesus Tx, and your pertronix fails....good luck.

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
That's why I have a set of points as well as the condensor in my truck with me. In case the pertronix fails, i'll go back to points to get me on my way...seems like a plan to me...

Re: Electronic ignition conversion
Right now I use the Accel Points Eliminator and after 5 years of using them on two trucks I never had one fail. So how often does your Pertronix fail?
Shoot points don't last that long.
I attended the Duraspark school in 1976 and except for my dad's 351 F150 and one that got towed to the shop that is the only Duraspark failures I ever saw. I have changed many more TFIs and points than Durasparks.

What is the part number for the Gentleman asking for help. I downloaded their current catalog and they don't list one in the version I have.
