Just wondering what you guys have for foundations on your garages.
Thinking about getting one built and trying to decide how to have it built.
Thanks guys

Re: Question about garage foundations
If it is a single or double detached car garage the most common practice in our enviroment is to strip the top soil,
spread and compact 3/4" road crush gravel, pour 4" concrete slab with an extra 4" slab thickening around the wall
perimeter (reinforce with 1/2" rebar @ 2'o.c./ e.w.). A curb can be formed and poured @ the same time, that will
retain any grade differentials. Hope this helps.

Re: Question about garage foundations
Concrete all the way. The thicker the better. If you can afford it that is.

Re: Question about garage foundations
I don't think the pole barn idea would fly in most municipalities.
Check with your local building codes office regarding what kind of slab is required. Some places require a 3' deep footing around the perimeter, some do not. Some places will let you pour the slab/footings, but not erect the garage for a while. Some will not let you wait to do the garage.
Definitely check with your codes office.

Re: Question about garage foundations
Yep, check the codes first. I chose post construction with siding because we have limestone ridges running just below the ground and a 36" deep footer was going to cost almost as much as the rest of the garage. Local codes says 2/3 above ground, 1/3 below for post construction so I have a bunch of 12' 6x6"s holding my garage together. If you look at the pictures in my project updates page you can see the construction. 2x6" sideboards, 4x8 OSB sheathing, 1/2" insulation, vinyl siding. The roof is 24' trusses, then sheathed and shingled. Looks just like a regular building from the outside.
