Engine Paint
I have my engine pulled for some clean up and gasket replacement. I want to paint it but don't know where to get engine paint from, what vendors sell this?
Also, I am planning on painting to engine compartment. Does the paint need to be high temperature like engine paint or can it be regular paint?

Re: Engine Paint
There are several shades of Ford blue, almost every brand is different and some is more like late 70s green. Check several sources and find the one you like best.

Re: Engine Paint
The deep dark Ford Corporate Blue is what 67 to 7something had for engine color.
It also depended on model of car as some cars used black after Falcons and such had that color. Early 352s and 332s were black and so were Y blocks (239,256,272,292 and 312)

Re: Engine Paint
i didnt read that all the way through. but iused the dark color on one of my engine parts when i replaced it and it was the wrong color as far as im concerned. i think a medium blue is more correct. these colors havent faded that much over the years. i remember the same shade when i was growing up and it wasnt as dark as the paint i was sold and used once. i do not know the color name it just said ford blue and the cap looked close but the actual color was wrong.

In the spray bomb I like Duplicolor Ceramic best.

Re: Engine Paint
Ford had a Darker blue and a lighter blue than Corporate Ford Blue applied to engines.fordman wrote:i didnt read that all the way through. but iused the dark color on one of my engine parts when i replaced it and it was the wrong color as far as im concerned. i think a medium blue is more correct. these colors havent faded that much over the years. i remember the same shade when i was growing up and it wasnt as dark as the paint i was sold and used once. i do not know the color name it just said ford blue and the cap looked close but the actual color was wrong.
DE 1601 is too light I found DE 1621 was much closer.

Re: Engine Paint
autozone has a "ford blue" paint. that is the one I am going to go with. don't know which lighter or darker that would be.

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Re: Engine Paint
That's the dark blue.
I used the duplicolor ceramic engine paints with outstanding results. I won't use anything else anymore. I've painted countless engines, axles and several entire chassis with the low gloss black, held up for several years now which is several years more than any other engine paint I've used. The dark Ford blue also works great, put 140K miles on a 390 painted with it and it still looked great when I pulled it.

That is the real late model Late 80s.SteveC wrote:i believe that this is the darker color blue could be wrong though.
I have worked on 3 colors of Blue, Black and Grey What can Ford paint them next. I painted all my F350s new suspension and steering parts light Ford Blue. But my engines have to be black(racing) or Corporate Ford Blue (Street).
