exhaust manifold bolts
Well, after 41 years of faithful service, it appears that the exhaust manifold gaskets on my '67 F250 Camper Special need to be replaced. Any suggestions for removing the bolts that are probably frozen? If they do break, how do I replace them? Are they replaceable? I assume they are.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts
a very common question and problem. soak the bolts with pb blaster or some other penetrating oil. wd 40 is not a penertrator. then you will want to use some heat on the ears of the head to exspand the metal of the ears. and then turn them out. when they break off . you have to drill them out and clean up the threads. the mostly suggested thing is to use stailess steel bolts. but you can also use a bolt and nut if something has gone wrong with the drill procedure. other will chime in and have more good things to say.

Thanks Fordman. I've never heard of pb blaster-is this available out here in SoCal? Maybe somebody out this way will speak up.

Not every one sells it, I think Home Depot, maybe Lowes, Kragens, and OSH

Re: exhaust manifold bolts
i used a product called rust buster i got it at sears, soaked the bolts every day for 3 days, no broken bolts, don't reef on them turn slowly if they don't budge soak them again, sometimes if you put a little tightening pressure first they will come loose.

Thanks for the pic-if its unfrienly to the environment, it's probably unavailable in CA I'll look around, though.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts
pb blaster is good. but if you cant find that exact thing any penetrating oil should help. one other thin gi can think of iis; when the bolt is turning but stops. turnit back in to let any rust flakes fall back out when you retighten it. and then try removing the bolt again.

Re: exhaust manifold bolts
PB Blaster is availible in California, just hard to come by from what I have seen. Took me forever to get a can, and I finally found it at a small no name parts house. But can't remember where I was when I had found it.
