Re: Glasspack installation (Was: Dynomax Thrush Glasspacks)
I just bought a 18" glass pack for my bone stock 1966 mustang 289 and my question is which way do I put it in? With the Louvers ( it's not perforated inside ) in the glass pack going with or against the exhaust .

It probably won't make any difference. Does it go in the rear? Those old Fords with the mufflers back by the bumper sure have their own sound, kind of a moaner.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

I beleave if you install against the luvers it will be quieter and with the luvers it is louder.

The leavers point forward or the muffler will be just a restrictor for no reason.

Yeah it is in the rear and with the oem style muffler on now ( that clangs and makes internal noises , just wearing out ) it does moan when I really get on it.willowbilly3 wrote:It probably won't make any difference. I added pictures of a louverd glasspack and a perfoated one. :Note the two glasspacks in pictures are different sizes.
Also to add something , I would have gone for a nicer quality muffler rather then a "summit glasspack" but I have a complete 2" H piped dual exhuast (from a 1973 mach 1) waiting for me down at my dad's house.
Which will be one of our summer projects.

Odd. Mine have always been installed with the louvers facing back . Always sounded good, but thet were always 30" or 42" monster glasspacks.

Direction is optional depending on the sound you desire. They can usually go either way in my experience.

I've noticed the FE motors are much quieter than SBC engines. You put glass packs on a SBC and it is LOUD! You put them on an FE motor and they are nice and mellow. Just my .

I found that out too. I also discovered that a new F150 non company truck with louder than stock mufflers gets a ticket when my F250 can make over twice the sound and gets ignored.
