carb vacuum lines

Post by 67MercM100 »

OK all you Ford PhD's...here my next "ignorant newbie" question.
(BTW: Thanks to all for answers on my fuel pump question)

The Ol' 300 inline 6 now starts (with the aid of a couple of spritzes of starter fluid) and runs on on its own.
BUT, none of the vacuum lines from the carb/intake were on the truck when I got it. The question is:

What vacuum lines go from where to where???

I've got one on the carb, one way down low on the carb. I'm sure one of those goes to the vacuum advance on the distributor. I just don't know which one. Or where the other one goes.

There's also a thin metal tube coming from the choke that looks like it needs a line on it. I'd guess it has to do with heat. I just don't know where the other end would go.

Finally - there's the "big" one coming from the manifold. My guess was that it was for the PCV valve. But they're different sizes. My piece of hose that I bought fits good on the manifold side, but it I can't get it on the PCV. If that's not where it goes, where does the hose from the PCV go?

Any and all help is appeciated greatly.

the large one is probably pcv. or it could be power brake booster if you have that. the little one low on the carb probably is for the dist. the choke tube on a v8 goes from the choke to the passenger manifold.

The YF-1

The little port on the bottom of the carb Float bowl side is Dizzy vacuum. You have one on the air horn for Choke Clean air that lets the choke hot air tube only get filtered air.
The PVC inlet line goes to the top or side of the air cleaner from the breather cap. The PVC outlet line goes from the PVC valve to under the carb behind the carb pointing backward. It does not fit because the one shown in my manuals is a metal line that goes part way backwards to the PVC valve.

Thanks Dragon.
I probably should have mentioned that I don't have the stock air cleaner housing.
Maybe I don't have both ends of everything...

The manifold end will be a pipe thread. Use a pipe nipple of the right size and if you need PB or anything else use a T that fits the nipple. Otherwise use a coupler on the nipple and then a reducing bushing to get to the right size hose nipple. OR if it is larger than the pipe nipple use a coupler that is the right size and use a reducing bushing,
Reducing bushing http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/pipebushing.html
Pipe Nipple http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/hexnipple.html or http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/yelbrasnip.html
Couplers http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/pipcoupredco.html
or http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/pusbarmalpip.html
:D
2 step solution http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/adapter.html and

I like brass a whole lot better than galvanized.

It seems that all of us that drive hard or have a lot of miles has enough blowby to make the inlet side get oily. When I get my recovery and clean air tank done. I will post a pic or two. I am sending the air intake tube to a can with fresh oil in the bottom so the stuff that blows out of the engine that the PVC can't suck in gets trapped in a deep can with a hot rod type twist on filter.

What engine/tranny do you have and what does the 77 have?
