Cylinder Heads
Can I use 390 heads on a 360? Do I have to change other components or with they work as they are? Also, what can a 360 be bored to? And by that I mean, what cid can I achieve by boring the block?

Heads will fit.
Without sonic checking .30 over is about the limit on a 360 block, however 360/390/410 blocks are identical and you can obtain those displacements using factory rotating aseemblies. Larger displacements are possible using aftermarket parts.

Re: Cylinder Heads
I read once an FE with no core shift could be bored .090. It was in an article about sonic testing in some Ford specific magazine.

What block do you have? If its a D3 or a D4, you will be able to go bigger then .030 over.....JMHO

Re: Cylinder Heads
The MCC castings are said to be a bit better quality, still if I had any intentions of leaning on it very hard I would sonic check it before going over .30. Particularly with my luck, "should" and "will" are not the same thing.

Re: Cylinder Heads
I agree. Why not spend a little extra and know for sure. On a street engine it isn't as critical but for any kind of performance or severe duty I would sonic test. I also remember in that article that the Cleveland blocks were really thin. Some they tested with stock bore did not have enough wall thickness on the thrust side to use for a build. I can't remember the numbers but even a perfect Cleveland couldn't go over .030 by their standards. As mentioned, a tested 390 with no core shift could go .090 and a 460 as far as .125.DuckRyder wrote:The MCC castings are said to be a bit better quality, still if I had any intentions of leaning on it very hard I would sonic check it before going over .30.
