That reminds me of going to pick up my daughters truck, I drive 350 miles with a tow dolley on back, get down there and find out that the tie downs barely cover the tires (It was 11PM at night), that was a VERY scary trip back, not to mention driving through L.A. traffic, pulling it behind Da BUMT (Which I hadn't taken on trips over 20 miles yet), praying to god it didn't fall off. I had images of showing up on the evening news as having caused the worst pileup in LA traffic history.

My suggestion is to take a look at the set up beforehand, the chains that are on it are to be used to tie secure the dolley to the frame. The dolley I got didn't have the hardware to connect them, just the chains, so I ended up buying locks from a convenience store. I believe there were SUPPOSE to be bolts and nuts to use, but...... You can also buy some cheep nylon tiedowns to help secure it. Quite frankly I am having bad flashbacks as I type this. When I pulled into the gas station where I bought the locks the 61 came off the dolley and started rolling towards the gas pumps (NOT a funny sight then). Also in case no-one has told you if the VW is automatic wither tow it with the rear wills in the dolly or remove the drive shaft. Didn't know this before until I was looking in a Chiltons afterwards trying to figure out why it wouldn't go into gear. I think the note said don not drive towing by the front wheels over 50 mph or 30 miles or serious damage could occur to the transmission. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to tow an F250 not a vw. I just told uhaul that because they hardly let you tow anything otherwise. Not more than 30 miles before damage eh? I will leave the engine running then.![Shhh :shh:](./images/smilies/icon_shhh.gif)
