Re: Choke vacuum hose
once you get a new tube you drill out the manifold and insert the new tube into the manifold. that is the standard procedure.

Re: Choke vacuum hose
There used to be repair kits, like in the HELP or Dorman line. It has a fitting that slides into the hole and a new tube to attach. That whole system was not one of Detroit's finest. I would convert it to electric.
If you can't find a kit at the parts store, I think I have one floating around that you can have. The only part of it you usually need, if your tube is still long enough, is the little stepped fitting.

Re: Choke vacuum hose
You drill the manifold end out with a standard sized drill bit. I forget what size and you can replace it with Brake Line. If on the intake manifold take the manifold off before you drill. If on the exhaust manifold don't worry the metal shavings go down the tailpipe.

Re: Choke vacuum hose
Plug the hole with a brake line bent over our run a self tapping screw into the hole or LB Weld.jokqs wrote:If I go to electric choke......do I have ta plug the hole? and if so with whut?
Some manifolds don't have that port going anywhere is just loops around above the heat crossover and is not tied into anything. If that is your type as is mine you don't have to do anything.

Re: Choke vacuum hose
That is not correct. The hole does not enter the exhaust, it is a port around the exhaust to allow air to be heated. You must vacuum out any debris as it will be sucked into the carb. You also do not need to remove the intake for that reason. HawkrodDragon wrote:You drill the manifold end out with a standard sized drill bit. No, you do not need to plug the hole. It is just a port that is vented to the atmosphere (usually by another hose back to the carb but not always). It does not leak unless the manifold has rusted through from the inside and then you don't want to use it anyway. The hole in the manifold (intake or exhaust) is really just a loop that air is drawn into on one side and then heated by exhaust gasses and then drawn out of the other side to the carb. If you are not using it you do not need to do anything with it. You do need to plug the carb fitting though as it is a vacuum leak. Hawkrod
