re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 9/14 - hooked up engine, started
Headers? You installed the headers? The only thing you did with the headers was pay for them. There he goes, taking credit for my hard work. You may notice I am wearing slacks in the pic. I had a meeting I had to get to but was determined to hear that engine before I left. As soon as it fired up, I had to go put on a shirt and tie and skedaddle. But I spent the rest of the evening with a big stupid smile on my face.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 9/14 - hooked up engine, started it
-drilled new holes in PS bracket, mounted bracket, pump and belt
-mounted alternator and swapped pulleys
-replaced passenger hood hinge for a spare i had. the rivets were scary loose
-mounted shift linkage
-dad created a throttle linkage
-new return sprigns for throttle
-new pcv valve deal
-new tranny cooler line connecter mcbobbers
-cleaned up around the truck
it is now driveable with powersteering and everything, minus the alternator since i dont have the right size belt.
but i cant drive it around the court because its too late to be making so much noise.
ordering Flowmaster 40's right now so we can get those on, and the hood and drive it to Prairie city for a good beating!
tools are sooo cool until you have to clean them up
started it up and ran it through the gears, shifted into each gear nicely. oh and the engine runs sooo much smoother than when it was in the other truck, probably because of the carb.
and i got the mufflers in the mail today
should have those on by Sunday.

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 9/14 - hooked up engine, started it
took the truck for a spin at the short-course track by our house
the 429 is soooo fun
the stock suspension is soooo not fun
we went to a muffler shop that my dad used to work at, hoping they would give us a great deal on some pipes bent, but instead they were total jerks. so we stopped at another muffler shop, and the guy behind the counter happened to work for my dad a bazillion years ago at the same muffler shop we first went to. he gave us pipe, bent the pipe, gave us hangers and clamps and welded some stuff all for $10 (gave him $20) so he could buy his buddies lunch. thought that was pretty cool
my dad got both pipes/mufflers on
heres one of them.
we didnt beat on it too long, just wanted to make sure its all good to go and have some fun, and this guy came so we watched him show us how its done
sorry, no video of the exhaust or jumping, and we didnt get much pictures at all this time, so i cant show proof of me soaring through the air at 300mph and jumping 40 feet

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Re: 1971 f250 DESERT truck- 10/5 update
Lookin good man.
I have to ask you something....
Where does the hose for the power brake booster run to? And where does the fat hose on the front of the carb run to?
Im forgetting where everything goes on my truck.
