Yes, it's a bare block.
We all too often pay for technology when you look at this:
The 9.5 deck with a stroke of 4.25" allows displacements to 460 cubic inches!
At 108 pounds lighter than the steel 302 block, and with that stroke watch-out!
The aluminum block technology is propelling in recreational boating, (especially airboating where heat dissipation is crucial).
Anyway, I love the 302's.
I presently own three of them, (one .030 over for the Ranchero and two more for whatever comes up).
