4bt cummins in my lifted 4wd?
I was wondering if people have experience with the 4bt cummins, and whether or not it would have enough power for my lifted pickup with 37 inch tires.

Come out to Wilsonville and take a ride in my '71. It's not a rocket, but it does well, drives like a big block through 1/4 throttle then runs out of RPM.
The 4BT easily has the same power (minus a little off-idle torque) as a gen1 dodge cummins. If you know the Cummins engines and gear the truck right you can quite easily smoke a brand new diesel truck with a 4BT in your truck.
That said, I know some that have no clue how to work on a diesel or what power these engines are supposed to make and have a turd of a truck with a 4BT. For example; 4.10 gears, 31" tires and no overdrive DO NOT work with these engines.

I would say to go for it. A bone stock 4BT would struggle a little, but add the gov spring, and the fuel rate adjustments, then you'd be fine. If that's not enuf, it's easy to make even more power, just takes more money.
As mentioned before, gearing plays a really big role. Basically, you gear it like it's a low revving big block....within reason.
You mean there's still places to go 'wheelin up there? I used to go to Snow Peak all the time until they closed it . That was over 10 yrs ago when I still lived in Albany.

351c is a pretty high rpm motor, I don't know if thats good or not for wheeling.

Cool dude, yea i kinda over by dq. Yeah the 351C is a pretty hi-rpm engine, but it is also one of the best designed engines of its time, thanks to its large port canted valve heads. I have the 2v which has smaller ports than the 4v.

351c, 435, 4.10's and 37" tires will not work very well. Unless you plan to run in low range all the time. That would be an OK driver with a grunt 390 or 460, not fun at all with a small block.
There's a good reason why the low RPM 4 banger diesels cost so much right now. They are getting more than they should, but even at those prices they pay for themselves in fuel savings in short time.
I wouldn't wheel one of these things though. They have way too much low end torque for my taste and they're very loud. You cannot hear anyone outside the truck over the engine noise at idle.

The 351 will be good, it excellerates ok with a almost blown up engine, im sure a rebuilt 1 will be great. I dont really like driving big blocks or diesels that much because of the fact that they don' go very high in the rpm's. Plus keep in mind my pickup is a standard cab short bed 1/2 ton, which equals a pretty light pickup.
